Another Flow Stoppage for Libya

Tuesday, November 11, 2014

Libya has seen another oil field shut in, this time it is the El Feel oil field operated by NOC and ENI. According to reports, the field was shut down due to a power outage. The El Feel shut in follows the El Sharara field closure late last week when gunmen stormed the field.  It is hoped that both fields, which share one power supplier, will restart in the near future.

Besides the two oil fields being shut in, Libya saw state security guards start a protest at the Hariga oil port in the eastern region of the country, halting all oil exports from the terminal. There was also a bomb explosion in the eastern town of Shahat where UN special envoy Bernadino Leon was meeting with the internationally recognized prime minister, Abdullah Al Thinni. While nobody was seriously injured when the bomb exploded, it does give a clear picture of a country whose security situation has spiraled out of control

Mediation efforts by the UN aimed at ending the conflict between the government in Tripoli and the government in the east of the country has not seen progress.
