Egypt will see the start of production of unconventional gas by the end of June, according to reports. Apache Corp. and its JV partner Shell should see production from the Western Desert near the start of H2.
Drilling of the first well for Egypt’s first unconventional gas reserves will start by the end of March with a pilot well program, according to a Bloomberg report. Two additional wells will be drilled before a full field development plan is submitted to the government.
Shell is the operator in the unconventional gas pilot project with a 52% interest, while Apache holds the remaining 48%. The JV’s unconventional reserves lie within the Northeast Abu Gharadig license.
