Armed Group Stops Fuel Supplies to Tripoli

Thursday, September 21, 2017

Fuel destined for the Libyan capital of Tripoli via pipeline was shut in on September 18 by an armed group. The group shut the fuel pipeline from the port of Zawiya to Tripoli, affecting not only the capital, but supplies to towns in Libya’s western mountains.

Reports have the control room at the Zawiya port being stormed and employees forced to stop pumping fuel. Tankers were sent to Zawiya to ship fuel to Tripoli, 45 km (28 miles) to the east. NOC said the situation was “under control” there, according to a Reuters report. The group and their demands were not identified.
