Atlantic Energy Chief under Corruption Scrutiny

Wednesday, October 7, 2015

As part his drive to root out corruption in Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has arrested the co-chairman of local oil firm Atlantic Energy, Jide Omokore. The Nigerian businessman was brought in for questioning over corruption and money laundering charges, an official at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said, according to a Reutersreport.

Jide Omokore joins the ranks of several Nigerians like former oil minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, who have been swept up in Buhari’s corruption crackdown. The former oil minister was arrested in the UK last week.

Alison-Madueke has denied any wrongdoing but the financial crimes unit has sealed one of her houses in Abuja as part of the probe, security sources told Reuters.
