The AU Commission’s chairperson, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, denounced the recent terror attack on a Niger army patrol north of Tilwa in western Niger. The attack left at least a dozen soldiers dead and several others wounded.
The chairperson offered her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery to the wounded.
As the chairperson of the AU Commission, Zuma reaffirmed the organization’s rejection of all acts of terrorism and violent extremism. Zuma went on to commend the efforts of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) against the Boko Haram terrorist group, which has been severely degraded. She reiterated the AU’s commitment to continue to work with the Member States of the Lake Chad Basin, and Benin, to completely eliminate the Boko Haram menace.
