In Nigeria, multiple bombs went off on September 20 in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, reportedly killing at least 55 people and injuring 85. On October 2, five female suicide bombers of a young age were behind another set of explosions in Maiduguri. Initial reports had 14 dead, including the girls, and more than 40 injured.
Cameroon has increasingly become subject to attacks by the notorious Boko Haram militant group that has left thousands dead, tortured or terrorized in Nigeria. On September 3 Cameroon saw its northern town of Kerawa hit by two suicide bombs, leaving 19 dead and at least 143 wounded. One of the bombs went off near an army camp and the other at a market.
Later in the month, twin suicide bombings killed at least five people, including two young female bombers, in the town of Moro, located in the same region. Two days later, two suicide bombers prematurely detonated after being discovered by troops in northern Cameroon, fortunately causing no other casualties.
Cameroon is part of a joint task force fighting the Boko Haram, and as such has become a target of the militant group which has aligned itself with ISIS.
