BP is facing a lawsuit filed in London’s High Court by the families of two BP employees who were killed in the in the attack and subsequent siege at Algeria’s In Amenas gas plant in 2013. The lawsuit accuses the multi-national of failing to take reasonable steps to protect its workers.
In the 2013 attack on the In Amenas gas plant by Islamist militants left 40 people dead, most of them foreign nationals.
“Our clients have now commenced court proceedings to help them secure the justice they seek following the deaths of Carlos and Sebastian,” said Clive Garner of law firm Irwin Mitchell said on behalf of the families of BP employees. BP employees, Carlos Estrada Valencia and Sebastian John were both killed during the attack.
BP and its JV partners have faced criticism over security at the plant.
