Another facility operated by BP in Algeria has taken a hit. According to reports out of the North African country, assailants fired on the Krechba gas installation, fortunately causing no casualties or damage.
The plant was hit by mortar fire from a vehicle outside the perimeter of the installation, BP said in a statement.
BP’s In Amenas gas facility was attacked several years ago.
Immediately after the attack there had yet to any claim of responsibility, however it was later reported that al Qaeda’s Algeria-based group, al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) took credit for the attack.
The Krechba is a satellite operation of the In Salah gas field, Algeria’s third-largest.
A union representative at Sonatrach said security contractors were now armed and additional soldiers and police officers had been deployed by Algerian authorities to the installations.
