Brega LPG Tank Hit in Strike

Friday, February 21, 2020

National Oil Corporation (NOC) of Libya confirmed that a liquid petroleum gas (LPG) tank at the Brega Petroleum Marketing Company (BPMC) airport storage facility was hit by munitions on the evening of February 19, causing it to burn. Fortunately, the tank was nearly empty and there were no fatalities, but critical infrastructure was compromised.

“We are watching our oil and gas infrastructure being destroyed in front of our eyes day after day,” said NOC chairman Eng. Mustafa Sanalla, “This is yet another new crime against the Libyan people, who continue to suffer while foreign powers try to implement their agendas in our country. These crimes must not go unpunished.”

The BPMC airport warehouse was evacuated last month after it was hit several times, putting the lives of staff at risk.

NOC on February 7 reported that oil production had dropped from a high of 2.2 million barrels per day to 182,000 barrels per day resulting in losses to the Libyan state of over $1 billion.
