Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s president, cancelled his planned trip to the Niger Delta. Reports have Nigerian vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, scheduled to visit the region instead to launch a cleanup program of the Ogoniland.
There was no reason given for the cancellation of Buhari’s visit.
Buhari said last week that his government would hold talks with leaders from the communities in the Niger Delta. The communities have been plagued by oil industry pollution and economic marginalization for years.
