BW Adolo Christened for Turtle Field

Monday, April 9, 2018

BW Energy, a subsidiary of oil major BW Offshore, christened its oil tanker, BW Adolo, for the development of the Turtle oil field off Gabon. BW Adolo, currently at the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore, was previously working on the Azurite field before being selected to contribute to the development of the Turtle Field.

“Warmest congratulations to the colleagues of BW Offshore for the designation of their FPSO, BW Adolo,” BW Group said in a statement at the oil company’s baptism ceremony.

The Turtle field, which is part of the Dussafu PSC offshore Gabon, is one of four oil discoveries in the Dussafu area. Operator BW Energy Gabon holds a 91.667% stake while its partner in the Panoro Energy project holds 8.33% of the shares.

The development plan for this field was approved by the Gabonese regulator in January 2017. BW immediately started drilling operations on the DTM-2H production well on this field with the commissioning of the Borr Norve self-elevating platform. After this ongoing drilling phase, the company says, the well will need to be completed with another subsea well, consisting of a horizontal drain of about 500 meters.

This will be followed by the drilling by the platform of the pilot hole of the DTM-3, which will make it possible to evaluate the potential of the Gamba and Dentale reservoirs located in the northwestern part of Turtle.
