Cannon Artes Awarded Contracts in Egypt and Uganda

Wednesday, February 8, 2023

Cannon Artes, a global engineering and construction company which provides tailored water and wastewater treatment plants for the oil & gas industry, recently announced contract awards from the hydrocarbon industries in both Egypt and Uganda.

In Egypt, the Suez Oil Processing Company (SOPC) has awarded the company a turnkey contract to build a desalination and demineralization plant, which is part of the modernization of the company’s Suez refinery. The contract is valued at an estimated $31 million and is expected to come on stream by the end of 2024.

“Cannon Artes will be responsible for all stages of this huge assignment from detailed engineering design, construction and delivery of the entire water treatment infrastructure including pre-commissioning and commission, and start-up,” said Pasquale Punzo, CEO of Cannon Artes. “The scope of this major project provides our team unique engineering challenges and calls upon our vast expertise, technology and know-how to realize this milestone facility for the Suez Oil Processing Company.”

The plant will be fed with water from the Red Sea and will be treated to provide high-purity demineralized water to feed high-pressure steam boilers as well as low-salinity make-up water for cooling towers. It will occupy an area of 7,140 sqm (76,900 sq ft) – like a football stadium – with an overall capacity of 30,000 m3/day (over 1 million cu ft) and will rely on Cannon Artes’ capabilities and experience in both desalination plants and customized solutions for refineries.

In Uganda, TotalEnergies and its joint venture partners CNOOC Uganda Ltd and Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), will develop the Tilenga Project in the Lake Albert region of Uganda. McDermott, the EPC contractor of this massive project, awarded Cannon Artes the contract to provide water treatment solutions to cover almost the complete needs of the plant.

Cannon Artes will be involved in almost all areas of water treatment that cover the complete water needs of the plant, supplying four packages. Water injection is the largest package of filtered and deaerated water from the lake using multimedia filters with (high filtration efficiency) and vacuum deaeration.

Tilenga is one of Uganda’s two pioneer Oil & Gas projects with a focus on sustainable development. Using the best-in-class technology and expertise during development, Cannon Artes says a significant aspect of this project will be dedicated to knowledge transfer for the local people so as to establish solid engineering expertise.
