CBO Turns to PG Flow Solutions for Solving Mud Handling

Thursday, September 27, 2018

26 September 2018 – Brazilian ship handling expert CBO – Cia Brasileira de Offshore – has contracted PG Flow Solutions to supply liquid mud agitators for two of the shipowner’s offshore supply vessels.

Under the contract, PG Flow Solutions will deliver three electrically driven PG-SubmixE mud agitators to the mud handling tanks of the CBO Arpoador and CBO Ipanema offshore supply vessels (OSV), respectively.

The PG-SubmixE agitator is a slow running, wide impeller, high torque “paddle type” agitator, providing a primary pump flow of 12,400 m3/h. The agitator is bottom mounted in the OSVs’ mud tank. The main advantage with PG SubmixE is that it does not leave any “black spots” in the tank, as it slowly pushes the mud down towards tank bottom, where the highest velocity is most needed, and enters up the bulkhead walls. This ensures that the mud is kept in continuous suspension during voyage and storage.

“Our agitators keep the mud in motion and prevents unnecessary build-up of solids in mud tanks. This results in significantly reduced demand for tank cleaning and reduced wear and tear on pumps and valves. In short, effective mud agitation saves time, money and maintenance costs,” says Are Hjertvik, PG Flow Solutions’ vice president of international sales.

CBO operates a fleet of 23 offshore support vessels and is present in the main Brazilian oil basins, giving support to the oil exploration and production platforms at the country coast. The company works mainly in the Campos Basin, the Santos Basin, the Espírito Santo Basin and the Ceará and Potiguar basins.

PG Flow Solutions provides proprietary solutions, systems and products for companies within the energy, maritime, aquaculture and land-based process industries. The heritage of the business is pumps and pumping systems. Its main manufacturing sites are located in Sande, Vestfold, Norway, and Worcester, UK. The company also has a fabrication site in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, and a service set-up in Ningbo, China.
