Chad and Niger Troops Liberate Nigerian Towns

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

The Boko Haram has been routed from two northeastern Nigerian towns by troops from Chad and Niger according to reports. The fighting to liberate the towns of Malam Fatouri and Damasak left some 200 Boko Haram fighters dead. Also killed in the fighting were an estimated dozen troops from the Chad and Niger forces.

The offensive comes as the AU endorses the creation of a regional force of up to 10,000 men to join the fight against the group.

While the liberation of the two towns is a positive in pushing outBoko Haram terrorists, which recently pledged allegiance to the despicable ISIL group, the Islamist militants have not slowed down their violent rampage. Turning its violence to other towns in the north the group killed 12 when they attacked the town of Ngamdu in Borno state early on March 10.

In addition to the Ngamdu attack, a loud blast was heard in Maiduguri. It is not clear whether it was a bomb, but the city was rocked last weekend by bombings that were also attributed to the Boko Haram.
