Chad is optimistic about its production totals over the next year or two. The government expects to see its production totals more than triple by 2015. According to Atteib Doutoum, Chad’s finance minister, the added production will come from new oil fields coming onstream near Lake Chad.
Oil production may reach 200,000 bpd by next year and an estimated 300,000 bpd by 2015. Output fell to 97,000 bpd this year from 110,000 barrels in 2012 as “technical issues” have disrupted drilling operations, Doutoum said. The technical issues could included Chad shutting down CNPC’s production in August over environmental concerns.
