Chinese firms in Chad saw their workers begin a three day strike on March 9. According to reports an estimated 1,600 workers began the strike after rejecting a pay offer from Great Wall of Drilling Corp., a unit of CNPC, and China National Logging Corp. This is the second strike declared in Chad this year.
The first strike launched by the workers in January resulted in the Chinese firms pledging to increase salaries but unfortunately the proposal of 2% starting in 2015 was unacceptable to the workers. Union official Lagmet Harge said, “That’s why we have decided to strike from Sunday at midnight until Wednesday. The strike is renewable.”
Chad’s crude production was not affected and neither were operations at its refinery.
