Chevron’s annual maintenance and safety inspections at its Cape Town Refinery in South Africa will result in a boost to the Western Cape’s economy. The inspections will result in Chevron spending an estimated R25 million and will creating an additional 300 jobs during the inspection period.
The inspections will start in February.
The supply constraints that are seen during maintenance will be mitigated through the building up of strategic fuel supply in the time leading up to the inspection.
“Every year Chevron South Africa invests in maintaining the high safety and reliable operation standards practiced at the refinery through its annual maintenance and safety inspection. Furthermore, this annual activity aims to ensure adequate product supply across all our markets,” says Doug Pottenger, General Manager Refining, Chevron Cape Town Refinery.
“The logistics around staging an inspection of this nature always creates a positive ripple effect in the region. For example, Chevron South Africa hires marquees and catering from nearby suppliers during the period,” says Pottenger.
