CNG Development for Nigeria

Sunday, June 3, 2018

The gas distribution company, Powergas, and European Technologies for Africa (ETEFA), an Austrian company specializing in green technologies, have joined forces to invest in the development of CNG in Nigeria.

A pilot phase of project development was launched in Lagos called “One City Bus and One Truck”. During the launching ceremony, partners explained to stakeholders in the transport sector that they will provide gas engines for vehicles with CNG solutions. This will significantly reduce CO2 emissions on Nigerian roads, the developers said, according to reports by The Guardian.

Although they have not mentioned any amount or volume of production, the partners have ensured that they will fall back on some of Nigeria’s 178 gas flaring sites. The government recently stated that the amount of gas burned in the country is sufficient to meet Nigeria’s energy needs and those of many neighboring African countries.

Nigeria burns as much gas as it imports from diesel and gasoline, and with Gasgas’ gas recovery project, flared gas will also be converted into fuel for NGVs.
