CNOOC Looks for Giant Find Offshore Gabon with Tigre-1 Spud

Wednesday, February 1, 2023

China National Offshore Operating Company (CNOOC) has spud the Tigre-1 wildcat well offshore Gabon in search of Africa’s next giant find.

The well is being drilled by the Stena Icemax mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU), contracted by CNOOC in September, in blocks  BC 9 and BCD 10.

CNOOC has planned a two-well program, with an estimated total campaign duration of 90 days. This is the first exploration campaign for Gabon in over five years.

In 2014 Shell made a significant liquids discovery in a pre-salt play with the nearby Leopard-1 well which hit 200 meters of pay.
