Cobalt International Energy is hopeful it will soon receive approval for its field development plan for its pre-salt discoveries offshore Angola. Cobalt holds stakes in Blocks 9, 20 and 21.
During the Angola Ministerial session at the World Petroleum Congress held in Moscow June 15-19, James Farnsworth, chief exploration officer for the company, when asked by Petroleum Africa about the timeline for the development of its discoveries, said: “We have submitted our field development plan to the authorities and hope to soon have it sanctioned soon. We are targeting first production for 2017 at about 20,000 bpd which will be processed through an FPSO.”
To date, the company has made five discoveries out of six wells drilled and is currently drilling its seventh. These discoveries include the Bicaur, Cameia, Mavinga on Block 21 and the Orca and Lontra on Block 20.
