Cobalt International Energy is expecting to spud its next well offshore Angola shortly. In its annual report the company said that it moved the DiamondOcean Confidence rig to the Mavinga #1 location within Block 21. The Mavinga #1 well is a pre-salt exploration well.
On Block 20, also offshore Angola, Cobalt is expecting to spud its “highly anticipated” Lontra #1 pre-salt well. The well will be drilled using the new build Petroserv SSV Catarina rig.
Results from both the Mavinga and Lontra wells are expected sometime in H2 2013. Cobalt, as operator, holds a 40% working interest in both the Mavinga #1 and the Lontra #1 wells.
In addition to the action in Angola the company is currently participating in the drilling of the Diaman #1 well offshore Gabon. The operator of the Diaman #1 well, located on the Diaba Block, is Total. The results for this well, which was spud on April 17, are expected in H2 also. Cobalt holds a 21.25% in the Diaba Block.
