In Cobalt International Energy’s Q1 results, the company said that drilling operations on the Zalophus-1 well on Block 20 offshore Angola were completed. The Zalophus-1 is a pre-salt exploration well which resulted in a discovery of condensate and natural gas.
The well represents Cobalt’s sixth pre-salt discovery offshore Angola and its third discovery on Block 20. The well was drilled using the Petroserv Catarina drilling rig.
The Petroserv Catarina is now completing drilling operations on the Golfinho-1 pre-salt exploration well, Cobalt’s final commitment well on Block 20. The company said early analysis of the Golfinho well results indicates potential for another large mound feature with Cameia-like fluid and reservoir properties.
Until the closing of the Angola Transaction, Cobalt remains the operator of and holds a 40% working interest in Block 20, in partnership with Sonangol and BP.
