Companies Safe in South Sudan Oil Zones

Monday, October 16, 2017

Companies worried about the security of their prospective operations in South Sudan have the reassurances of the government that all will be well. According to the country’s oil minister Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth in an interview with the Malaysian Star, the government’s efforts to ensure full security for the oil sector have been successful.

Gatkuoth said the security situation around the production areas is now under control and that investors will be able to operate in peace. For Juba, the security issue is at the heart of the process of increasing production from its current 130,000 bpd to 290,000 bpd by July 2018 as targeted.

Violence in production areas is slowing down and potential investors are reluctant to inject capital into the sector. According to Gatkuoth, the government increased its military presence in all the main production areas of the country and expected an imminent recovery of the exploitation activities.
