Constitutional Reforms Unveiled in Algeria

A draft of Algeria’s constitutional reforms was unveiled by the government on January 5. The reforms include a two-term presidency limit, an obligatory consultation with parliament to name prime ministers, and making the local Amazigh an official language.

The proposed reforms will go before parliament for approval this month. Once approved, they will be adopted as part of the constitution.
