Construction on Sonjon Plant Begins

Cote d’Ivoire saw construction start on its Songon power plant. The 372-MW, €500 million-power plant in being financed mainly by the China Construction Bank.

The plant is set to be up and operational in 2018.

The Chinese bank is funding 75% of the project, with GE and Star Energie putting up the remaining 25%.

Star Energie, an Ivorian firm, is project leader and China Energy Engineering Corp. will lead construction of the plant’s three turbines. The plant is comprised of two gas turbines of 126 MW each and one 120 MW steam, which are provided by GE.
