ControurGlobal to Build Senegalese Power Plant

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

ContourGlobal will invest $133 million for a 53-MW thermal power facility in Senegal under a build, own, and operate (BOO) contract. The deal, struck with the state-owned utility Societe Nationale d’Electricite du Senegal (Senelec), will see the plant built at an existing brownfield site in Dakar under a 20-year PPA.

The facility will be powered via heavy fuel oil and natural gas equipped with Wartsila 18V46 high efficiency engines coupled with flexi-cycle steam turbine technology to increase generation capacity. “By utilizing the infrastructure at the existing site, we are able to provide SENELEC with the lowest cost electricity in their engine-based generation portfolio, replacing expensive emergency power rental equipment,” Joseph C. Brandt, CEO of ContourGlobal, said.

The project is slated for completion in 2015.
