Daewoo Inks Kaduna Refinery Rehab Contract

Monday, February 6, 2023

Last week the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC) signed an agreement with Daewoo Engineering & Construction for the rehabilitation of the Kaduna Refinery & Petrochemical Company (KRPC) facility.

NNPC made the announcement on its Twitter page on February 2. “NNPC Limited’s Kaduna Refining & Petrochemical Company Ltd (KRPC) & Daewoo Engineering & Construction Nigeria Ltd. signed a contract for maintenance services for quick-fix repairs of KRPC,” the oil firm stated.

Nigerian refineries have a long history of underperforming due to being in a state of disrepair, and the government has long tried to address these shortcomings, mostly to no avail. The Kaduna Refinery has a capacity of 110,000 bpd. If the fixes are implemented, it would go a long way in alleviating unnecessary fule product imports.

With the focus on repairing its existing four refineries, and the mega 650,000 bpd Dangote Refinery expected to come online this year, with preliminary testing possibly beginning by late March, Nigeria should see costly imports of fuel products dramatically decrease.
