Dana G Abandons Merak-1

Tuesday, July 30, 2019

The Dana Gas well on the North El Arish concession offshore Egypt, the Merak-1 well, failed to encounter hydrocarbons. The well, according to the company in a statement to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, is being abandoned.

After drilling to 3,890 meters, reaching 46 meters of sand in the Miocene objective interval, Dana Gas decided to plug and abandon the well.

This was the company’s first foray into Egypt’s offshore segment, with all of its assets in Egypt being located onshore the Nile Delta. However, block six contains three other independent prospects, the potential of which are “unaffected by the Merak-1 well result,” according to Dana Gas.
