Thursday, August 13, 2020

The semi-submersible drillship DeepSea Stavanger has arrived in Cape Town en route to Mossel Bay where it will begin a $400 million drilling campaign for French major Total in the Outeniqua Basin. The drillship began its journey in early July and is on contract through Q1 2021 with an option to extend until the end of 2022. The rig is expected to remain there for between 180-300 days.

The first well on tap is the Luiperd-1 and is a follow up to the basin-opening Brulpadda oil and gas discovery on Block 11B/12B, made in February 2019. Deepsea Stavanger drilled the Brulpadda oil and gas discovery in the Outeniqua Basin 175 kilometers off the southern coast of South Africa. The block covers an area of approximately 19,000 square kilometers with water depths ranging from 200 to 1,800 meters.

The Paddavissie Fairway in the southwest corner of the block includes the Brulpadda discovery, as well as several large submarine fan prospects that have been significantly de-risked by the discovery and subsequent 3D seismic acquisition. and is in follow-up to the Brulpadda discovery made in February 2019.
