While conducting a water survey in the Hudun area of Somaliland’s Block SL-18, DNO said several shots were fired near its team conducting the water survey.
“At approximately 3:30 p.m. local time [August 11], a limited number of gun shots were reportedly fired in the vicinity of the team,” said DNO spokesman Henrik Schwabe. “No one was injured and the team was immediately repatriated to Hargeisa.”
The Norwegian firm is currently in Somaliland exploring for oil and the water survey was part of a DNO-funded project to provide communities in the area it is exploring with safe drinking water.
“The Somaliland authorities are investigating the matter further,” Schwabe said.
While there has been some talk of DNO exiting the country, DNO says it has no intention to leave and the speculation is incorrect.
