DOB-1 Gives up Gas in Morocco

Thursday, February 26, 2015

Gulfsands Petroleum’s Douar Ouled Balkhair 1 (DOB-1) well in northern Morocco on the Rharb Center permit is a discovery. The well encountered gas while drilling. Gulfsands said during testing of the discovery, gas flowed to the surface at rates in excess of 10 Mmcf/d. DOB-1 has now been suspended as a future gas production well.

The DOB-1 well is the third well to be drilled on the Rharb Center permit and follows the DRC- 1 discovery announced at the end of January and the LTU-1 drilled prior to that. The wells drilled during this campaign were based on the company’s interpretation of 3D seismic survey data acquired in H2 2013.

While the primary reservoir target found gas that flowed at a rate of 10 Mmcf/d, the secondary target was unable be tested due to mechanical problems with well bore integrity above the interval. The company is currently attempting to determine the optimal path for further exploration of this reservoir.

Gulfsands CEO Mahdi Sajjad commented in a company statement, “We are delighted with the results of the drilling and flow testing operations at well DOB-1. This is the third consecutive successful exploration drilling result that the company has achieved in Morocco utilizing the 3D seismic data acquired and processed in 2013-2014.

“We are continuing with our efforts to commence production from these discoveries and are receiving much appreciated assistance from ONHYM to ensure this is achieved as soon as possible.”
