Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Libya’s National Oil Corp. (NOC) and Dow Chemical will establish a joint-venture to operate and upgrade NOC’s Ras Lanuf Petrohemical Complex.

The complex can produce, per annum, 330,000 tonnes of ethylene, 170,000 tonnes of propylene, 130,000 tonnes of mixed C4s, and 325,000 tonnes of pyrolysis gasoline. In addition, the complex produces 80,000 tonnes per year of linear, low-density PE (LLDPE) and 80,000 tonnes per year of high-density PE (HDPE).

The agreement involves the revamping and expansion of existing plants at the site, and the setting up of a new ethane cracker and PE and polypropylene (PP) units. The project will also entail building complementary hydrocarbon, plastics, and natural gas-based chemical facilities.
