Sunday, August 11, 2019

Dozens are dead in Tanzania following the explosion of a fuel tanker on August 10. According to reports, at least 60 people were killed as the explosion and resultant flames traveled through a crowd that were trying to siphon petrol from the tanker.

According to a live state TV broadcast, government spokesman Hassan Abbasi said at least 60 people died and 70 were injured in the blast, which occurred in Morogoro, a town around 200 km west of Dar es Salaam.

Abbasi said that the government was aiding in the coordination of the salvage operation “to ensure we bury the bodies… relatives identify the bodies of their loved ones, and those injured get proper treatment”.
