SacOil, a JV partner on the DRC’s Block III, and the operator Total E&P RDC, have completed the acquisition of a 2D seismic survey. The survey was conducted over the northern area of the block.
The partners saw the successful completion of 244 km of 2D seismic data and currently the seismic acquisition contractor is in the process of demobilization. The 2D seismic acquisition program is in fulfilment of the minimum work program obligations for the partners.
The next step will be to process and interpret the seismic data, and integrate the results with the previously acquired gravity and magnetic data.
Block III lies in DRC’s portion of the Lake Albertine Basin, where just over the border in Uganda a substantial amount of reserves have been discovered and are being developed. A portion of the block, about one-third, lies inside the Virunga National Park; however, Total says it will not explore in or near the park.
