DRC to Offer 30 Blocks in Upcoming Licensing Round

According to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ministry of Hydrocarbons, a total of 30 blocks will be offered in its upcoming licensing round to include 27 oil blocks and three gas blocks. The licensing round will begin on July 28 and is open to both national and international participants.

The oil blocks are in various locations in the country, including 11 near Lake Tanganyika, nine in the Cuvette Centrale, four in the Lake Albert vicinity and three in the coastal basin of Kongo Central province. The three potential natural gas blocks are on Lake Kivu.

Minister of Hydrocarbons Didier Budimbu announced the following blocks will be in offer:

Coastal Basin (3 Blocks)

  1. Block Yema II is located in the territory of Muanda, district of Bas-fleuve, province of Kongo-Central.
  2. Block Nganzi extends in the territories of Lukula and Tshela, district of Bas-fleuve, province of Kongo Central, in the west of the DRC.
  3. Block Matamba-Makanzi II is located in the territory of Muanda, district of Bas-fleuve, province of Kongo Central.

Central Bowl (9 Blocks)

  1. Block 4 covers the territories of Bolomba and Basankusu in the province of Equateur and the territories of Boende and Befale in the province of Tshuapa.
  2. Block 4B covers the territories of Befale, Boende, Djolu in the province of Tshuapa, Bongandanga, Bokungu, Ikela in the province of Mongala, Yahuma in the province of Tshopo.
  3. Block 6 extends over the territories of Banalia, Bafwasende, Isangi, Ubundu, Opala in the province of Tshopo.
  4. Block 18 extends into the territories of Kole, Lodja, Lusambo, Lomela (Province of Sankuru); Mweka, Dekese (Kasai Province); Demba and Dimbelenge (Kasai-Central Province).
  5. Block 21 extends into the territories of Kasongo, Kibombo, Kabambare (Province of Maniema), Katako-Kombe and Lubefu (Province of Sankuru).
  6. Block 22 located in the territories of Lukolela (Province of Equateur), Yumbi, Bolobo and Mushie (Province of Mai-Ndombe).
  7. Block 25 located in the city of Kinshasa and its outskirts.
  8. Block Moero which extends over the territories of Kasenga, Pweto (Province of Haut-Katanga), Moba and Manono (Province of Tanganyika).
  9. Upemba block straddling the provinces of Haut-Lomami, Haut-Katanga, Lualaba and Tanganyika.

Graben Tanganyika (11 Blocks)

  1. Block Kibanga Kisoshi is located in the territory of Fizi in the province of South Kivu;
  2. Block Kalemie is located in the territory of Kalemie, Province of Tanganyika;
  3. Block Kituku Moliro is located in the south of Moba territory, province of Tanganyika;
  4. Block Mulula Lubanga is located in the territory of Kalemie, province of Tanganyika;
  5. Block Uvira is located between the territories of Uvira and Fizi in the province of South Kivu;
  6. Block Baraka is located in the territory of Fizi in the province of South Kivu;
  7. Block Kakelwa-Kabobo is located between the territories of Fizi and Kalemie in the province of Tanganyika;
  8. Block Kabimba is located in the territory of Kalemie in the province of Tanganyika;
  9. Block Kibi-Fatuma is located between the territories of Moba and Kalemie in the province of Tanganyika;
  10. Block Mpala is located in the territory of Moba in the province of Tanganyika;
  11. Block Moba is located in the territory of Moba in the province of Tanganyika.

Albertine Graben (4 Blocks)

  1. Block I is located in the territories of Mahagi and Djugu in the province of Ituri.
  2. Block II is located in the territories of Irumu and Djugu in the province of Ituri.
  3. Block IV is located in the territories of Beni, Oicha, Butembo and Lubero in the province of North Kivu.
  4. Block V is located in the territories of Lubero and Rutshuru in the province of North Kivu.

Gas Blocks (3 Blocks)

3 Gas Blocks are on Lake Kivu:

  1. Makelele Block
  2. Idjwi Block
  3. Lwandjofu Block
