East West Petroleum has reached the end of the initial three-year exploration period on the Doukkala Permit in Morocco and has decided not to continue with its exploration work on the permit. The company held a 75% participation interest in the 2000-sq km Doukkala Permit, with ONHYM holding the remaining 25%.
Paleozoic core samples from prior wells on the block were analyzed by its research team in Vancouver. The company also reviewed existing seismic and well data, as well as launched its own seismic reprocessing of 1,000 km of 2D data in Q1 2013. Besides the potential in the Paleozoic section, conventional Triassic oil leads were being studied.
The company had the option to extend the contract for another five years with additional work program commitments.
