The government in Eastern Libya, in defiance of the newly installed unity government, shipped its first cargo of crude.
Authorities in Tripoli asked the UN Security Council to blacklist the India-flagged tanker Distya Ameya, which left the eastern Libyan port of Hariga carrying oil they said could not be lawfully sold. The UN Security Council Sanctions Committee agreed to the blacklisting of the vessel, which prevents it from entering any ports.
The tanker departed Hariga carrying 650,000 barrels of crude late on April 25 bound for Malta, said Mohamed al-Manfi, a spokesman for the eastern NOC in a Reuters report.
Maltese national TV said the ship was in international waters near Malta. The island’s Port Directorate said the tanker was not authorized to dock there and requests would be refused.
