In an effort to appease its need for feedstock to power the industry, Egypt’s state-owned gas company EGAS tendered to buy at least 48 cargoes of LNG for delivery over 2015 and 2016, traders told Reuters.
An official at EGAS confirmed that a tender for LNG cargos was issued but did not say how many. The result of the tender is due by the end of December.
To import the LNG Egypt has entered into a deal with Hoegh LNG for a floating storage and regasification unit that will allow the country to begin importing LNG. The vessel is due to arrive off the coast of Egypt near the end of March.
