Thursday, February 14, 2019

Current operators in Egypt scored new acreage in the country’s latest tender. Shell, ENI, and BP all gained new blocks, with Shell scoring the most, with three oil licenses and two gas licenses.

Egypt also saw a new important entrant, with ExxonMobil being awarded its first license in the country.

Egypt expects investments of at least $750 million to $800 million in the first stage of exploration in the total of 12 concessions announced, Petroleum Minister Tarek El Molla said.

The EGAS bid round, which was the largest in its history, included border areas in the Mediterranean Sea as well as onshore areas in the Nile Delta. EGAS awarded five gas concessions, which it expects will lead to 20 wells being drilled.

The EGPC tender included areas in the Western Desert, the Nile Valley, the Gulf of Suez and the Eastern Desert. EGPC awarded seven oil exploration concessions, which will result in 39 wells being drilled, according to the Ministry.
