Egypt Expects Natural Gas Boost

Friday, June 13, 2014

Egypt’s oil minister, Sherif Ismail, has high hopes for the country’s natural gas production. The minister stated recently that production would increase by 500 Mmcf/d by December. The production increase is dependent on several gas fields coming onstream.

Ismail was quoted Al-Ahram newspaper’s website as saying that the expected increase would effectively be closer to 450 Mmcf/dy once natural attrition in well productivity is accounted for. The boost would bring gas production to 5.2 Bcf/d by the end of December Ismail was quoted as saying. The increase, if and when it happens, will meet the growing domestic demand Egypt has been experiencing over the past few years.

Ismail said the fields due to come on stream by the end of the year included Daka, Sapphire, and the Libra.
