Egypt plans to sign a demarcation agreement with its maritime neighbor Greece. The agreement is expected to pave the way for cooperation between Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, and Israel. It will also aid in expediting gas exploration efforts in Mediterranean waters, reported Al Shorouk Newspaper.
Egypt, Greece and Cyprus are proceeding with energy cooperation deals, setting the political framework for additional commercial agreements between the countries.
Egypt recently signed a deal with Cyprus that will see Cyprian natural gas exported to Egypt via pipeline once it starts producing from the discoveries made by US independent Noble Energy.
The US firm discovered an estimated 4.5 Tcf of natural gas in one prospect in late-2011. The agreement between the two governments was signed in the small island nation’s capital of Nicosia by Egyptian Petroleum Minister Tarek El Molla and Cypriot Energy Minister Yiorgios Lakkotrypis.
