A reported 55 militants died in the Sinai, according to Egyptian security forces, during the government’s military operation against Islamists in the region. The military operation was in its ninth day when the military reported the deaths.
In the fighting on September 15, two Egyptian soldiers were also killed. In total, since the operation began on September 7, one officer and eight soldiers have been killed.
The militant insurgency in the Sinai mounted by Egypt’s ISIS affiliate in the country, has killed hundreds of soldiers and police. The ISIS affiliates have also started to attack Western targets in the country.
