Egyptians will go to the polls near the end of May in the first round of presidential polls according the electoral committee. The first round election date is set for May 26 and 27 and most expect former army chief Abdel Fattah Al Sisi to win easily.
Sisi deposed President Mohamed Morsi in July and has a host of popular support from the Egyptian masses. At this time only other candidate for the presidency being Hamdeen Sabahi, widely supported by many liberals and came third in the 2012 election.
The vote will go to a second round in June if the first-placed candidate does not win by a wide enough margin however, the organizing committee did not say what that margin was.
