El Feel Resumes Production

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

Production has resumed at Libya’s El Feel oilfield. The field’s taps were turned back on when security guards ended their over two month long protest. The reopening of the El Feel oilfield is good news as the government has been using its only export production to feed the Zawiya refinery.

Acting Oil Minister Omar Shakmak told Reuters authorities had reached an agreement with protesters. “The protesters agreed to reopen the field which restarted work yesterday and today,” he said.

Production at El Feel is expected to reach 80,000 bpd soon, said Ibrahim al-Awami, head of the ministry’s inspection and measurement department in the Reuters report.

The government redirected offshore production from the El Jorf and Bouri fields to the refinery; prior to this the fields represented just about all the export crude contributing the country’s budget. The refinery’s production is being used to feed petrol stations in Tripoli which have had motorists lining up for days in order to fuel their vehicles.
