El Sharara Restarts Production

Thursday, February 6, 2014

Production at one of Libya’s key oilfields has restarted according to state-run firm NOC. The El Sharara field restarted after protesters ended their two-month blockade. The resumption of the field could potentially lift Libya’s production to 600,000 bpd.

While the end of the blockade at the El Sharara field is a positive for the country’s number one revenue generator, a different set of protesters have begun blocking an oil pipeline in the west that ships production to the Mellitah export port. The protesters are blocking the pipeline near Nalut carrying condensates from the Wafa field to Mellitah.
