Engen reported that it has made its third major investment in Namibia’s fuel supply this year, the Ondangwa fuel depot. The fuel depot, located in the northern portion of the country, is planned for 2016.
Construction of the facility will begin before the end of the year and is scheduled for completion around April 2016.
The depot follows a flurry of investment activity in the country in 2015, started with Engen’s upgrade of its Walvis Bay depot. The company added an additional 20,000 cubic meters to its storage capacity. This was followed by the completion of construction of the Grootfontein depot.
In addition, Engen upgraded its long-haul Truck Stop in Rundu in the north-east of Namibia, catering for trucks moving along the Trans-Kalahari towards Katima Mulilo, Zambia and further north, following economic activity in the region.
Drikus Kotze, Engen GM, International Business Division says the company’s modernization and expansion initiatives in the country, totalling approximately N$150 million, form part of its larger south-to-central African fuel supply strategy.
