ENI Launches Zohr Drilling in Med

ENI launched its appraisal program of its massive Zohr gas discovery off the coast of Egypt in the Mediterranean, according to the North African country’s Minister of Petroleum, Tarek El Molla.

In an Al-Ahram state media report, El Molla said Egypt has reached an agreement with ENI, which holds 100% working interest in the gas field, over the drilling program.

ENI’s program will the drilling of 20 wells over 26 months at a cost of $12 billion. According to the Minister, the field will produce approximately 2.7 Bcf/d of gas once complete.

The Zohr discovery, made in August, could potentially hold up to 30 Tcf of lean gas according to ENI.
