ENI Makes Discovery Offshore Libya

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Despite the ongoing violence in Libya that has set its production back exponentially, good things for its petroleum industry still manage to take place, the most recent being a discovery. The country’s top producer, ENI, made a gas and condensate discovery in the relative safety of Libya’s offshore arena.

ENI said the discovery was “significant” and was made with drilling on the Bahr Essalam South prospect in Area D with the B1-16/4 well. The well was drilling in water depths of 490 ft and encountered gas and condensates of Eocene age in the Metlaoui Formation.

During a production test the well produced 29 Mmcf/d of natural gas and more than 600 bpd of condensate. The Italian firm said the well could produce in excess of 50 Mmcf/d of gas and 1,000 bpd condensate in a production configuration.

The new field could be developed quickly given its location near to the already producing Bahr Essalam field.
