ENI’s plan of development (POD) for its FLNG project offshore Mozambique has been approved by the country’s Council of Ministers. Approval of the project paves the way for the Italian firm to take the FID later this year for the Area 4 Coral discoveries and their utilization which look to develop 5 Tcf in the first phase of development.
The company and its partners on Offshore Area 4 are currently waiting for confirmation in writing from the government on the plan it has sanctioned.
The POD was originally submitted to the government in late-2014 but challenges, such as the fact that the facility would not be supplying gas to the domestic market, held up the negotiations.
Mozambique’s INP was seeking up to 25% of the gas from the ENI development for the domestic market, but the high cost and environmental impact of building a pipeline to shore meant this option was ruled out and Mozambique settled for gas condensates at a low cost.
