ENI/Shell Trial Postponed

Thursday, March 8, 2018

The corruption trial for ENI and Shell in Italy has been postponed. According to reports, the Italian court postponed the start of the trial of executives from the two E&P firms until May 14.

The trial involves the 2011 purchase by the two companies of Nigeria’s OPL-245 offshore oilfield for around $1.3 billion.

Prosecutors in Italy contend that the two firms paid nearly $1.1 billion, with all going into an escrow account for the Nigerian government, from which $800 million was later transferred to a company connected to the country’s former dictator to be distributed as payoffs.
